Dr. Michael Grandner

Sleep Expert, Professor of Neuroscience and Physiological Sciences

Dr. Michael Grandner is a licensed clinical psychologist and a leading expert in sleep. He currently serves as the Director of the Sleep and Health Research Program at the University of Arizona and the Director of the Behavioral Sleep Medicine Clinic at the Banner-University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ.

Dr. Grandner holds multiple academic appointments, including Assistant Professor in Neuroscience and Physiological Sciences, and Associate Professor in Clinical Translational Sciences, Medicine, Psychiatry, and Psychology at the University of Arizona, where he is also a Member of the Graduate Faculty.

His work is centered on translational sleep research and Behavioral Sleep Medicine. His research focuses on understanding sleep as a critical health behavior and developing and implementing behavioral interventions for insufficient sleep and sleep disorders. His specific research interests include the cardiovascular, metabolic, and behavioral health outcomes associated with sleep duration, the social, behavioral, and biological factors influencing sleep, and the development of behavioral sleep interventions.

Dr. Grandner's expertise is recognized through his professional affiliations with organizations such as the Sleep Research Society, the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the American Heart Association, and the American Psychological Association.

He holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the San Diego State University and University of California San Diego Joint Doctoral Program, an MTR in Translational Research from the University of Pennsylvania, an MS in Clinical Psychology from San Diego State University, and a BS in Clinical and Social Sciences in Psychology from the University of Rochester. He completed his internship at the San Diego VA Healthcare System and University of California San Diego, and fellowships in Behavioral Sleep Medicine and Sleep and Circadian Neurobiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He is also Board Certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
