My name is Yunha Kim, and I’m the Founder of Simple Habit. Today, we’re officially announcing Sleep Reset, our second product, to the world. With that, I wanted to share a bit about my personal journey and the story behind Sleep Reset.
My main purpose in life has been to make a positive impact on the world by helping people with their mental and emotional health. In 2017, I dropped out of Stanford business school to found a 5-minute meditation app called Simple Habit. By 2020, Simple Habit had helped over 5 million users manage their stress and anxiety.
We were constantly talking to our users, and through those conversations and looking at our data, we started to notice one thing in common — our users were struggling with sleep. In fact, sleep was the #1 problem that our users suffered from. Many of them were using Simple Habit because poor sleep was causing stress and anxiety in their life.
As we learned more, we saw that this problem went way beyond our own users. We were shocked to learn that up to 60% of adults have chronic sleep issues – with devastating consequences for their health, emotional well-being, productivity, and overall quality of life.
This problem was very personal to me, too. I was dealing with my own sleep problems, which had intensified during the COVID pandemic. Seeking out the best care, I tried to get into a top-tier sleep clinic – but found myself on a 6-month waitlist! I realized that for most people, there is no easy access to care for sleep issues. That’s why millions of Americans end up relying on sleeping pills or melatonin – not knowing that sleeping pills can actually block people from reaching the critical REM sleep stage they need to wake up feeling well-rested and refreshed. So, we built Sleep Reset – the world’s first digital, personalized sleep clinic.
